High (Two) Level Cars

xx
Passenger areas include about 50% of the lower and all of the upper level of high level cars, a total of about 1,275 square feet of passenger space.
A self sufficient high level car with full dining may have four bedrooms including Optimum, Grande or Master Suites (see Bedroom Categories). All bedrooms have private bathrooms with a shower.
A high level car with limited food preparation capabilities may have a mix of five or six bedrooms and a lounge(s), and  can travel with another high level car that provides full dining service. A high level transition car can also travel with a single level dining car.
Entry is normally at the lower level on either side of the car with one or no steps up (based on the station platform deck).  Entry  may  also  be  from  the  upper  level  of another  high level or from a single level car into a high level transition car.
Some hi level cars are self sufficient and can operate with and in support of other cars. They have a mix of Optimum, Grande and Master Suites including lower level bedrooms that are the full width of the car. Full dining, bar and lounges are on the upper level.
A self sufficient high level car has: a mix of four double occupancy bedrooms, Optimum, Grande or Master Suites, accommodating eight, walk-in entrance (no stairs), an elevator/lift and stairs,  full dining service, lounges, elegant bedrooms, exquisite decor, spacious comfort, luxurious ambience and interior features that create an unmatched passenger rail car.
The high level car may be a transition car that can be coupled to another high level car at one end and to a single level car at the other. This version of a high level car provides operating flexibility that allows it to operate alone or be used in Train Sets having from two to five Cars, including other hi-level or single level Cars.
High level cars can’t operate on some of Amtrak’s northeast USA routes because of height restrictions.
